Thanksgiving Traditions at C Lazy U Ranch

November 9, 2022

The golden leaves have fallen, the air is crisp, and the turkey is almost ready for the table – it’s time for Thanksgiving! At C Lazy U, this fall holiday is one of our most special, as it truly embodies the ranch: celebrating togetherness with family & friends and giving thanks for all that life has to offer. When guests come to the ranch, we want them to experience the Thanksgiving traditions they’re used to – along with the excitement and special magic of the American West.

Kick Back and Relax

Want the perfect Thanksgiving, without all the troubles of hosting? Thanksgiving at C Lazy U is complete with all the traditions and trimmings, but free of the stress that often comes with hosting a large holiday affair. Instead of worrying about tidying the house or basting a turkey, you can experience quality time with the people you care about most. After a day of eating and adventuring, the last thing you want to do is wash the dishes and clean up – wouldn’t you rather sit in front of a roaring fireplace in your cabin or escape to the Lazy U Spa?

Thanksgiving Eve Festivities

The night before Thanksgiving isn’t generally celebrated, but it’s a different story when guests come to C Lazy U for the holiday. On Thanksgiving Eve, guests are treated to family game night, as well as gathering around the campfire to listen to acoustic guitar and the swapping of stories. This is a great way to introduce the guests who don’t yet know one another, creating the perfect atmosphere for the next day. Thanksgiving is about bringing people together, and there’s no better way to celebrate the holiday than by making friends with strangers from all across the country and world. On the ranch, we’re all members of the C Lazy U family!

Catch the Parade and the Game

There’s no arguing over the remote here! If the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is what you’re after, we switch it on at 9:00 AM sharp in the Patio House. At 10:30 AM, we screen the football game. If all the touchdowns (or lack thereof) have you working up an appetite before turkey time, no worries! Hungry guests can tide themselves over at a light soup and sandwich bar offered until 2:00 PM.

Welcome to dinner, where the food is as glorious as the presentation!

The Main Event: Thanksgiving Dinner

C Lazy U wouldn’t be able to call itself the ultimate Thanksgiving vacation destination without offering the ultimate Thanksgiving meal. Executive Chef Cory Untch prepares Thanksgiving dinner in his elevated, farm fresh, fine dining style, complete with all the favorites – mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberries, and, of course, turkey – plus extra dishes that fit the spirit of the season. For a truly next-level experience on the palate, Sommelier Tony Collier can help you discover a perfectly-paired vintage from our award-winning wine list.

As is typical for the holiday, the C Lazy U Thanksgiving feast is served at 4:30 PM. It’s an experience your mouth won’t want to miss!

Seasonal Dude Ranch Fun

Instead of traveling to and from a relative’s house for the meal – or spending an entire day prepping, cooking, and cleaning up – your Thanksgiving resort vacation at C Lazy U affords you the time to get out and experience all the excitement a luxury dude ranch has to offer. Our long list of seasonal activities provides bonding opportunities and adventure for all ages. Explore 8,500 acres of nature on horseback, hike & bike the trails (or snowmobile & snowshoe, depending on the weather), fish the river, shoot trap, try your hand at archery, take in the scenery, and so much more. There’s never a dull moment on the ranch!

Ranch Blog

Petey the donkey, a treasured C Lazy U Ranch worker, friend, icon, and unofficial mascot, passed away this December in Colorado after a long and beautiful life. This four-foot-tall (including ears), 350 pound bundle of fuzz and love had an incredible impact on every person he encountered during his remarkable 30 year life. Today, we…

From the Horse's Mouth

I can't say enough about your staff. Jackson greeted us as soon as we pulled in. All of the servers were helpful, engaging, and they had an uncanny way of anticipating our every need. Trent must have a superpower because he never seemed to tire of us and our endless requests. He has a terrific sense of humor, and his name recall was outstanding. Peyton killed it with the karaoke (and he probably never wants to hear “Sweet Caroline” for the rest of his life.) He fit right in and had only been on the ranch for 3 days. I enjoyed the shooting time with him and Jackson. And the biggest shoutout to Trevor – hiker extraordinaire. If we'd asked him to take us 15 more miles, he would have done it with a smile. He appeared like magic the morning we left and was able to charge our completely dead car battery so that we could still make our flight. We would not have made it without him. The property is gorgeous, and the staff is over the top. The food, wine and drinks were outstanding. I hope to return next time with my family, though I'd repeat my girls' weekend in a minute.
