Woodsie Scenic Lookout

Located just a quarter-mile from the main ranch, Woodsie provides some of the most cherished views on the ranch. Guests have been enjoying this overlook for over 100 years, and for good reason: standing high above the ranch, you’ll enjoy amazing views of the Willow Creek Reservoir, Colorado’s unforgettable mountain range, towering pines, and colorful aspens. Guests can enjoy breakfast at Woodsie every Friday in the summer or hike up to the lookout on their own.  For a particularly spectacular view, we recommend taking a winter hike up to Woodsie around sunset and enjoying the Alpenglow.

Yellow Brick Road

If you’re chasing Colorado’s fantastic fall colors, follow the Yellow Brick Road. Found along Curtis Ridge, the Yellow Brick Road is a strip of yellow aspen trees that line the trail on both sides. Wondering how this location got its name? In the fall, the leaves blanket the trail, creating a natural Yellow Brick Road. While it’s one of the more secluded locations around the ranch and takes some effort to get to, it’s worth it! You won’t see anything but nature – including elk, moose, and deer. Interested in seeing it for yourself? Talk to the team at the Outfitter’s Cabin about arranging a horseback ride or mountain bike trip.

Garden Of The Gods Rock Outcropping

Located a little over a mile from the main ranch you’ll find the Garden of the Gods rock outcropping.  Featuring unique rocks and expansive views of the ranch and pastures, you may be able to see the entire herd of horses below. Many guests sit back, relax, and take in the views while more adventurous guests can try some independent rock climbing or bouldering.

If you’ve admired the graceful gait of our horses’ hooves on the trail, or paid close attention to their rhythmic clatter during a trot, you might find yourself wondering: why do horses even need shoes? They’re originally wild animals, after all, so aren’t their hooves tough enough to handle anything nature throws at them? While…
