C Lazy U dude ranch gives guests the chance to experience something completely new. Whether it’s trying horseback riding for the first time, mountain biking through Colorado’s beautiful Rocky Mountain trails, or glamping in our famous Conestoga Wagon, there’s always something exciting happening on the ranch.
If you’re planning your next adventure at C Lazy U ranch, read on to learn more about one of our fan-favorite activities: trap shooting.
What Is Trap Shooting?
When trap shooting, you’ll try to hit the clay targets that are launched from a machine. At the ranch, there are two trap shooting machines to accommodate different skill levels. The beginner-friendly machine launches targets straight up into the air, while the more advanced machine releases targets from the side. This variety allows participants to practice shooting horizontal and vertical targets.
What Trap Shooting Accessories Should I Bring?
Guests are encouraged to bring their own eyewear (usually sunglasses suffice). To ensure guest safety, we provide all the other equipment you’ll use during your trap shooting session, including:
- A variety of age-appropriate firearms, including a .22, .410, and a 12-gauge shotgun
- Ear protection
- Ammo
Is Trap Shooting Safe?
Trap shooting at the ranch is truly a family-friendly activity. Our staff is well-trained on gun safety and will provide a mandatory safety briefing to your group before your session begins. With small groups comprising up to 5 people, our staff can manage the group and make sure all participants are adhering to our rigorous safety standards. C Lazy U’s trap shooting range is secluded, ensuring the safety of other guests during your session.
What Should I Expect From Trap Shooting?
After the safety briefing, each member of your group will take turns firing several rounds. Depending on your skill and experience level, your instructor will provide basic instruction on how to load, aim, and hold the gun, or provide more expert advice, like how to better track the target as it moves across the sky.
Once you feel comfortable with the gun, you’ll be able to choose which of the targets you’d like to hit. Beginners can focus on hitting a single target at a time, while advanced shooters can try to hit several targets from both machines.
How Do I Sign Up For Trap Shooting?
Summer trap shooting is available twice a day, while winter trap shooting is available once per day. To lock in your family’s spot, call us before you arrive to make a reservation, or stop by the Outfitter’s Cabin to sign up once you arrive.
