Winter Horseback Riding: What to Expect

  • No horseback riding on check-in and check-out days.
  • Winter rides are walk-only for the safety of both horses and guests. If you want to trot or lope, we recommend visiting May–October, when trail riding is more active.
  • Most trails are closed in winter, but we maintain two trail areas for rides ranging 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. If you want to explore more of the ranch’s 8500+ acres in the winter you may wish to consider a snowmobile tour.

The holiday season is not over yet — at least not at C Lazy U! We’re always in the giving spirit, so we’re extending the celebrations at the ranch with a special post-holiday event. You’ll get the complete C Lazy U experience: luxury lodging, gourmet food and, of course, plenty of ranch activities.

Postpone going home after your magical holiday stay at the ranch, or treat yourself to an adventure before you must return to the daily grind, be it school or work. Any reason is a good one to visit a dude ranch — especially one that has been named the best dude ranch to visit in the winter by DudeRanch.com!

From the Horse's Mouth

Julie's first Horsemanship Immersion clinic was excellent. The structure of the days and content of materials was on-point. For me personally, I got to work with horses I did not know and use my horsemanship skills to help the horses work through various exercises that they don't normally do. That was my goal for the clinic. The workshops were perfect topics, and the vet workshops were great information. There is so much to talk about and the team remained flexible to everyone's interest but kept on schedule. Julie's team is always able to work with everyone and help us grow our horsemanship skills with quick evaluation of our skills and encouraging reminders. That is what it is all about!
