FAQs

Is the ranch open for business?

Yes, the ranch is open for business and opened its doors on April 1, 2021 after an extensive property renovation. To view our upcoming events and specials click here.

Will I be able to do normal activities?

Yes! While we will still be offering all of our regular activities, there may be modifications to horseback riding, hiking, biking, and fly fishing to ensure guest safety and proper reforestation and land management.

How was C Lazy U Ranch impacted?

The East Troublesome Fire made its way through the property on October 21st and 22nd, 2020.  During the fire the ranch lost 4 buildings.  Fortunately, none of these four buildings prohibit the ranch from ongoing operations and all critical infrastructure remained intact and in working order.  The buildings that were lost included the iconic horse barn built in 1922, Evergreen guest cabin and two staff housing units.  Portions of the land were hit by the fire, some worse than others.  The main ranch compound was more or less spared, which is great news, so we plan to resume normal operations next spring.  The lodging and dining components have not been affected and can resume as normal.  Visually, when you are on ranch headquarters, you can hardly even tell there was a fire when enjoying common areas, surrounding meadows and vistas.  Parts of the land outside of these areas were impacted more severely so some of our trails, scenery and fishing may be compromised. Proactive measures are being put into place to restore these areas over the next year, but ultimately Mother Nature needs time to do her job.

Are there plans to rebuild the barn?

Yes! For all details regarding the impact of the fire on the ranch and the iconic C Lazy U Barn, please visit our Raise the Barn page.

Are the horses safe?

The horses were preemptively and swiftly evacuated almost a week before the fire made its way to C Lazy U Ranch. As the fire expanded, we safely relocated the herd a second time. In both instances, these efforts were led and managed by our amazing team of wranglers and managers, and accomplished via the tremendous community outpouring of support and many volunteers.

On November 6th and 7th, the horses were moved back to the ranch and were very happy to be home!

Is there anything the community can do to assist the ranch?

With the support from our ranch and volunteer partners, all guests, members, staff and ranch animals were kept safe and out of harm’s way, although at this time, the property is still closed.

We have received many unsolicited contributions to help rebuild the barn. We are grateful for the outpouring of your support. For those of you who have reached out and asked how you can contribute, we’ve arranged for you to donate through our PayPal account.

If you are looking for a way to assist the greater community, we recommend supporting the Grand Foundation and Mountain Family Center

Who do we contact if we have an existing reservation?

What does this mean for the future of C Lazy U Ranch?

In the spirit of the West, we are hopeful for the future and look forward to welcoming back guests for the next 100 years. The ranch will reopen for guests! C Lazy U Ranch celebrated 100 years in 2019, and as we look forward to 2021, we have a vision plan in place focused on the next 100 years. Next year, we look forward to welcoming guests back to our premier guest ranch.
