Spring/Fall Packing List

  • Jeans or traditional riding pants.
  • Pull-on boots with a heel for riding (adults may wear lace-ups, but we prefer that they wear the pull-on variety if possible).
    • While we do have a small selection of boots for you to borrow from we can’t guarantee boots for every guest. You can find great inexpensive boots at Sheplers.com (we suggest: Old West, Justin, Ariat and Roper).
  • Wool layers and socks. We suggest SmartWool.
    • Multiple layers are your best bet for staying warm- a great wool base layer, with fleece, flannel or down as a secondary layer should guarantee you a toasty warm vacation!
  • Helmets – if you have your own and prefer to use it you sure can, but we do provide helmets and require all guests 17 and younger to wear helmets.
  • Cowboy hats or ball caps are appropriate headwear for adult horseback rides.
    • We ask that a hat clip, or stampede string be worn with cowboy hats. Both of these items can be purchased at our store if needed.
    • We also recommend bringing warm hats or heard bands, and scarves as the average daytime temperatures drop quite a bit in the Fall.
      • Make sure that your hat covers your ears!
  • Chaps or half-chaps (optional)
  • Riding gloves (optional)
    • A pair of fitted gloves/or ski glove liners: remember that you don’t generate any heat on the back of a horse so it is important to keep your head and hands covered.
  • FOR THE LADIES – a sports bra for riding.
  • Swimsuits for the pool and hot tub, and for the reservoir rides that your kids’ counselors might take your kids on.
  • Flip-flops/sandals
  • Tennis shoes
    • The C Lazy U offers a myriad of non-equine related activities such as tennis, basketball, etc.
  • Rain jackets or long slickers
    • These can be placed into your saddle bags or tied to your saddle while riding.
    • We ask that you don’t bring ponchos, as they catch the wind and present a safety hazard when riding a horse.
  • Dinner Attire for Adults
    • Dressing up at the ranch doesn’t require a sport coat, although you may see one or two.  It does typically require a blouse, a collared shirt and your best cowboy boots.   Our guests have fun with western fashion and may often be seen in a fancy western shirt, crisp blue jeans and a handsome belt and cowboy boots. For the kids, dress jeans and a nice top are fine. For more detailed info on the C Lazy U dress code, please see our Guest Policies page.
  • Coats/heavy jacket for the evening hours
  • Sunscreen and bug spray if you have a preferred brand.
We provide the following:
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Helmets
  • Small selection of riding boots
  • Refillable water bottles

From the Horse's Mouth

“Giddyup!”

An incredible ranch experience for our group of nine people - 5 adults and 4 children ages 6 - 11. We had never been on horses, but by the end of the week, the kids were loping and participating in the "showdeo". The attention to detail, the amazing food, the variety of activities for all ages, the lovely tented spa experience and the beautiful scenery all added up to the best vacation we have ever had!
