12 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Actually Cross Off at C Lazy U

December 15, 2025

New Year’s resolutions always seem to fall into one of two categories:

Way too ambitious… or way too boring.

We aim for massive lifestyle overhauls (run a marathon! learn a new language overnight!) and then feel guilty when life gets in the way. Or, we set resolutions so easy they barely count and don’t provide any real fulfillment.

Well, this year, how about we do things a little differently? Heck, at C Lazy U, we’re ready to set you up with 12 resolutions you can complete in just a week on the ranch, but which you can still beam with pride over.

Let’s jump right into it with a list of fun, fulfilling resolutions you’ll be excited to complete the moment you arrive!

1. Befriend a Horse (and Learn a Little of Their Language)

How many people do you know who get the chance to be thoughtfully matched with horses that suit their personality and riding ability, then spend meaningful time in the saddle building trust and understanding along the way? At C Lazy U, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with the horses you ride through shared experiences on the trail—learning their cues, rhythms, and quirks as you go. It’s a chance to form genuine connections with some truly unforgettable equine personalities.

2. Check “See the Continental Divide” Off Your Bucket List

The Continental Divide is one of the most impressive natural features in North America: a massive ridgeline that runs from Alaska all the way down through South America, separating the rivers that flow east and west. To stand before it is to gaze upon the spine of the Americas.

In Grand County, Colorado, you have a variety of ways to see this awe-inspiring natural feature, including hikes, mountain bike trails, scenic drives, and even Lazy U Spa treatments

3. Try a Winter Sport You’ve Never Tried Before

Forget the same old gym routine. Kick off the year with something bold: hop on a fat-tire bike, glide across the Nordic trails, or clip into snowshoes and explore a quiet winter forest. Colorado winters are a playground, and you only need the motivation to join in.

4. Master the Art of Unplugging

A ranch vacation makes it easy to set the phone down. With so much wildlife and natural beauty right outside your window, and so many activities to get swept up in, who needs to check Slack or emails?

5. Learn a New Skill You Can Brag About Later

Axe throwing? Archery? Ice skating? Vaporizing clay pigeons? Cooking the perfect fireside s’more? Whether you want a serious skill or a delightfully silly one, you can head home with a new party trick no one at work will see coming.

6. Watch a Sunrise Without Rushing Somewhere

Wake up, wrap yourself in a blanket, step outside your private cabin, and watch the sky turn from violet to gold over miles of untouched wilderness. What pairs better with coffee than that?

7. Do Something That Scares You (Just a Little)

Hop on a horse for the first time, feel the kick of a 12-gauge, tear through powder on a snowmobile, learn to skate without falling over… The ranch is full of (safe) thrills to boost your confidence without overwhelming your nerves. It’s time to yell “yee-haw” and summon the courageous spirit of the West!

8. See the Milky Way With Your Own Eyes

Most people go their entire lives without ever truly seeing the cosmic cross section of the galaxy we call home. But high in the Colorado mountains, far from the urban glow, the sky turns velvet-black and the stars show off. On clear nights, you can step right outside your cabin and look up to see the Milky Way, the “backbone of night” arching across the sky like a luminous river. It’s a downright breathtaking — and humbling — experience.

9. Treat Yourself: Truly, Fully, Guiltlessly

The Lazy You Spa is fully resolution-approved. Award-winning specialty treatments are designed to make the most of the seasons, like massages atop flowing water and moonlit copper tub soaks in the warmer months, and cozy fireside treatments in the cooler months.

10. Make Time for Romance

Start the year with a date night you’ll both remember: wine by the lodge fireplace, a private sleigh ride under the stars, or a cozy cabin retreat where the only agenda is being together. Every romantic moment gets a boost when the mountains join the conversation.

11. Start a New Family Tradition

Maybe it’s a New Year’s trail ride. Maybe it’s hot chocolate on the patio at sunset. Maybe it’s shouting “Happy New Year!” under a sky full of stars. Traditions don’t have to be old or complicated, they just have to involve the people who matter.

12. Feel Like a Kid Again

Ride in a sleigh, build a snowman, skate loops around the pond, or laugh so hard you lose your balance while tubing. A ranch vacation gives adults permission to play again (as if you needed it).

Kick Off the New Year in a Place That Feels Full of Possibility

Ready for some resolutions that don’t feel like homework? C Lazy U is the perfect place to start your year with magic, momentum, and memories you’ll carry far beyond January.

So, let’s saddle up and head into the New Year with the same stoic majesty of a cowboy riding into the sunset.

If the idea of a winter ranch vacation sounds both magical and intimidating, you’re not alone. Families often picture deep snow, freezing temperatures, unfamiliar activities, and a lot of unanswered questions. Will the kids be bored? Will we be cold? What do you actually do all day at a ranch in winter? Here’s the truth:…

From the Horse's Mouth

I'm still blissed out after our weekend at the ranch. Philip and I have traveled all over the state and truly, it was one of the best trips we've ever had. Thanks so much for extending the experience to us. Although ranch stays are trending and there are so many options in Colorado, I don't think I really understood the allure until visiting for myself. For one, I'm so glad we went in the wintertime. In chatting with the staff (who were all fabulous — service was a big stand-out feature), I got the impression that January-March is a quiet season. But man, are people missing out. We saw so much wildlife, enjoyed guided experiences with such intimate groups, and had a level of privacy I've never come across at an all-inclusive resort. The activities were abundant, the facilities and rental gear were high quality, and the food! The wine pairing dinner was an unexpected surprise and again, so intimate and enjoyable. The whole experience was such a treat. Thank you again. High praise all around. There's really so much to love about the destination.
