Summer & Fall Packing List

  • Jeans or traditional riding pants.
  • Pull-on boots with a heel for riding.
    • While we do have a small selection of boots for you to borrow from we can’t guarantee boots for every guest. You can find great inexpensive boots at Sheplers.com (we suggest: Old West, Justin, Ariat and Roper).
  • Helmets – if you have your own and prefer to use it you sure can, but we do provide helmets and require all guests 17 and younger to wear helmets.
  • Cowboy hats or ball caps are appropriate headwear for adult horseback rides.
    • We ask that a hat clip, or stampede string be worn with cowboy hats. Both of these items can be purchased at our store if needed.
  • Sunglasses
  • Chaps or half-chaps (optional)
  • Riding gloves (optional)
  • FOR THE LADIES – a sports bra for riding.
  • Swimsuits for the pool and hot tub, and for the reservoir rides that your kid’s counselors might take your kids on.
  • Flip-flops/sandals
  • Tennis shoes and/or hiking boots
    • The kids’ evening activities often involve running around the ranch (Counselor Hunt and Capture the Flag, for example)
    • The C Lazy U offers a myriad of non-equine related activities such as tennis, basketball, etc.
  • Shorts
    • It gets fairly warm in the summer and we have a lot of non-horse related activities for you to enjoy at your leisure.
  • Rain jackets or long slickers
    • These can be placed into your saddle bags or tied to your saddle while riding.
  • Dinner Attire for Adults
    • Dressing up at the ranch doesn’t require a sport coat, although you may see one or two.  It does typically require a blouse, a collared shirt and your best cowboy boots. Our guests have fun with western fashion and may often be seen in a dressy western shirt, crisp blue jeans and a handsome belt and cowboy boots. Adult dinner attire has been described as “Western Chic” – men usually wear jeans (or slacks) and a nice button down, and women wear ranch/western dressy skirts and tops, or dress jeans and dressy western tops. Have a little fun with it– “cowboy-up” your cocktail attire! For more detailed info on the C Lazy U dress code, please see our Guest Policies page.
  • Dinner Attire for Kids
    • Dinner is typically served outside on the Patio House deck, and their after-dinner evening activities are usually outdoors as well so pack jeans, casual clothes and a warmer jacket and/or layers for colder nights.
  • Layers
    • The evenings do tend to cool down, so a heavier coat or sweater would be appropriate for those evenings spent around the camp fire.
  • Sunscreen and bug spray if you have a preferred brand.
We provide the following:
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Helmets
  • Small selection of riding boots
  • Refillable water bottles
  • Laundry detergent
  • Swimming floaties
  • Hair Dryer
  • Iron and Ironing Board

From the Horse's Mouth

I participated in the Julie Goodnight Clinic and loved every single minute. As a fairly new rider, I was worried that I would get overwhelmed or feel left behind, but instead I learned so much from instructors and participants. This experience was well beyond my expectations. I seriously have no complaints about course structure or content. I've already been using some of the skills I learned and my horses and I are more connected and I can tell my riding has improved 10x. Just can't say enough good things about Julie and her team. If the sessions were spread out to 5 days, I would be onboard because it was pretty intense (although I think it was exactly what I needed as a newer rider).
